Works have commenced at our Kilpatrick Secondary School and Early Learning & Childcare Centre.

The £10.5M project comprises of a new Additional Support Needs (ASN) secondary school, a link to the existing primary school that will incorporate a small extension to facilitate a new early years department, refurbishment/ upgrading of an existing hydrotherapy pool and a new 3G playing field. The new school has been designed to reflect current educational thinking on the provision of education for pupils. The project is being delivered in partnership with Heron Bros Ltd as principal contractor and hub West Scotland, West Dunbartonshire Council’s development partner.

Councillor Michelle McGinty, convener of educational services, recently cut the first sod at the construction site within the grounds of the existing school to mark the launch of the project. Councillor McGinty said,

““I’m delighted to see work start on this project. I know parents, carers and pupils have waited a long time for a new school and they thoroughly deserve it. The old school is no longer fit for purpose. This project is going to give them a school they can all be proud of with first class facilities which will improve the lives of the children and young people who attend Kilpatrick.”

The new facility will be capable of serving a future roll of 110 secondary pupils and a new early year’s facility. The existing Secondary and separate Primary ASN will remain operational throughout the construction stage of the new facility.

“Heron Bros is excited to be main contractor on this project and working within the West Dunbartonshire community. We aim to maximize the positive impact we can have during our time on site and look forward to delivering a facility that will continue to add value for the local community” says Martin Lalley, Contracts Manager with Heron Bros.
