Heron Bros. Ltd proudly delivered the £4.5 million Arthurlie Family Centre in the heart of Auchenback, East Renfrewshire. Situated on the site of the former Primary School, the new centre was designed as a sustainable community hub, bringing together vital early years services under one roof. The facility provides nursery education for up to 170 children under the age of five.
Constructed using a traditional timber frame, the building features a blend of masonry panels and high-quality Siberian larch rainscreen cladding. The thoughtful use of natural materials and a calming colour palette help create a warm, nurturing environment for young learners.
Internally, the single-storey centre includes seven bright, modern playrooms, all with underfloor heating and level access throughout. Each playroom connects to a sheltered outdoor area and a secure garden, allowing year-round access to outdoor play and learning.
The reinforced concrete floor slab, energy-efficient lighting, water-saving sanitaryware, and solar photovoltaic panels contribute to the building’s sustainable footprint. Large glazed curtain walling allows for passive solar gain, flooding the interior with natural light. External areas feature recycled rubberised play surfaces and soft landscaping, providing a safe, engaging environment for children and the community.
