We are seven months into the construction programme and the Main Building and Covered Synthetic Pitch are taking shape with the steel and concrete structures clearly outlining the shape of the new centre. The next construction phase will see development of the outdoor facilities, to include an exciting adventure playground with many innovative features, a pump track with undulating terrain for cyclists and a wheel park to develop skills on skateboards, scooters and BMXs. Heron Bros is proud to be the principal contractor on this £30m leisure facility which is sure to be a welcome addition to the wider Newtownards community.”
Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Robert Adair, commented:
“The replacement Leisure Centre for Newtownards is part of Ards and North Down Borough Council’s ambitious capital investment scheme that also includes Public Realm works in Holywood as well as the potential Queen’s Parade redevelopment in Bangor. The new multi-functional facility will significantly enhance the borough’s leisure facilities and be one of the best examples of indoor and outdoor leisure provision in Northern Ireland.”
Ards and North Down Borough Council Chief Executive, Stephen Reid, added:
“The new leisure centre represents a very significant investment in high quality sport and leisure facilities for people of all ages and will contribute much to our overall objective of promoting the health and wellbeing of residents.”
