Heron Bros Ltd has won the Sustainable Building of the Year Award at the annual Sustainable Ireland ceremony in Belfast.

Our project team attended the glittering black tie event at the Ramada Hotel in Belfast to receive the award, which was sponsored by Sustainable Ireland.

Heron Bros Ltd was praised for its work on the Forthriver Innovation Factory, a £9m Design & Build scheme project funded by Belfast City Council, INI and the European Regional Development Fund.

The building provides 382 workstations across 111 business units, and will house more than 100 businesses supporting 400 jobs. It achieved a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good,’ with its design utilising natural materials and employing energy efficient and complex smart technologies to ensure it continues to operate at its optimum performance. The project team monitored and measured environmental performance throughout the construction stage, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency.

“The Forthriver Innovation Factory has been designed to evolve with start-up companies. As a business grows, the building will continue to offer the additional space and resource that will be required. The building therefore adapts to the needs of the business which is a crucial requirement for all start ups. We are delighted to have received this award in what was a heavily subscribed category”, commented Kevin Sage, Contracts Manager with Heron Bros Ltd.
