Ystrad Mynach Caerphilly

The new development sees the former hospital site transformed into a sports hub with both professional and community teams able to make use of the facilities.

There is a main building and 2 grandstands, and slabs from the former hospital buildings are being removed to make way for third generation rugby and football pitches which are used by Newport Gwent Dragons rugby team and Cardiff City Football Club.

The project was constructed on the former Ystrad Mynach Hospital site rejuvenating a brownfield site to enhance the project’s sustainability.  It entailed a new two storey integrated sporting excellence centre and community building for use by the Welsh Rugby team and also the local community.  Heron Bros Ltd provided a multi-purpose sports hall, fitness/conditioning suite & studio with associated changing facilities and internal storage area. In addition, there is a reception area including office accommodation, meeting space and athlete’s lounge.

Works were completed in close proximity to a residential area and live Ystrad Mynach Campus which required careful planning and coordination to ensure minimal impact from dust and noise to their daily activities.
