This £5.4m project comprised the demolition of two existing primary schools and the construction of two new 11 classroom single storey primary schools including school meals accommodation, associated services installations and Siteworks for Ballymena Parish.

This was a traditional contract designed and constructed to meet the requirements laid out by DENI (Department of Education for Northern Ireland). Both schools were highly complex architecturally, structurally, in services design and in construction. It was successfully managed by our excellent team headed by Construction Director, Eugene McAneney.

While St Brigid’s was constructed on a Greenfield site it required the relocation of overhead cables before the building could commence. St Columcille’s was built on the original schools site and we provided temporary works at St. Mary’s in Harryville to facilitate the required decant. Site access was gained through the main entrance of the adjacent St Louis’ Grammar School. Both sites required extensive ground remodelling with vibro-compaction to provide suitable bearing strata. The internal design maximised daylight and had a sharp and modern aesthetic. The extensive siteworks required large areas of fill to made ground and included entrance roads, car parking and both hard and soft play areas.
